New single and tour! 'Beauty On The Bottom'
‘Beauty On The Bottom’ is the first single from the upcoming John Flanagan Trio album, which will be John’s first recording collaboration with his regular bandmates, Liz Frencham and Daniel Watkins. They will release the single on April 27th in conjunction with a tour which will take them through Sydney, Melbourne, Newcastle, Canberra, Adelaide, and other regional centers around VIC, NSW and SA during May and June.
Recorded at Dog and Bear Studio in the beautiful town of Trentham in regional Victoria with Nashville producer Erick Jaskowiak (Alison Krauss, Colin Hay, The Mae Trio), the trio knuckled down for 4 days and recorded 11 songs with special guest Justin Olsson on drums (LANKS, Oh Pep!, The Little Stevies). The songs were recorded ‘live’ with the musicians all playing together in the same room, capturing the dynamic live energy that the John Flanagan Trio have become known for.
‘Beauty On The Bottom’ celebrates the simple moments in life while having a poke at overreaching ambition and ladder climbing. It is just a taste of what is to come when the trio releases the full album in early 2018.
Combining 70s folk singer/songwriter influences with a contemporary Americana sound, John Flanagan made his mark on the Australian musical landscape when he released his latest album There’s Another Way to Where You’re Going. Recorded in Nashville with producer Viktor Krauss the album was nominated for best Folk/Roots Album in the Age Music Victoria Awards, was featured on ‘album of the week’ lists for ABC and community radio and has been a radio favourite around the country.

Fast becoming a favourite on the Australian Folk Festival circuit, the John Flanagan Trio somehow manages to transcend beyond the sum of its impressive parts: Flanagan’s dry humour, touching lyricism and warm vocal delivery, Frencham’s remarkable stage presence and innovative double bass playing, and Watkins’ award winning, virtuoso bluegrass playing on guitar and mandolin.
