70s folk meets bluegrass when the John Flanagan Trio bring their stirring vocal harmonies and impressive acoustic arrangements to venues around Victoria this winter, building on the success of John’s recent album release. The trio will hit regional Victoria and Melbourne from July to September before John embarks on a solo tour in Canada during Sept/Oct (taking in Victoria, BC). John’s engaging lyricism, uplifting melodies and warm vocal timbre have seen him draw comparisons to James Taylor and Paul Kelly and he has “proven himself a songwriting force to keep an eye on” (Timber and Steel). His latest album, ‘There’s Another Way to Where You’re Going’ was recorded in Nashville with producer Viktor Krauss and it has been a radio favourite:

He recorded the album with the best of the best, including Grammy award winning engineer Neal Cappellino and a team of musicians who have played on records with Willie Nelson, Robert Plant, Emmylou Harris and Alison Krauss to name a few. Through the start of 2016 John has been touring to packed country halls, live music venues and intimate house concerts all around Australia in a successful double album tour with Sal Kimber. John is just as happy performing to a huddled, lounge room audience as he is on a large festival stage and he is often jumping from one to the other.

An award winning songwriter and performer John’s credits show his diversity. He won the respect of the roots music community when he took out the Gympie Muster Talent Search (2013) and on the other end of the spectrum has been a winner in the AUS/NZ A Cappella Recording Awards (2015). Vocal harmonies and powerful songwriting are both at the forefront in John’s trio, also featuring festival favourite Liz Frencham (double bass) and bluegrass virtuoso Dan Watkins (mandolin/guitar) who add their world-class musicianship to create a dynamic and exciting live show.
